Om Puri

ਓਮ ਪੁਰੀاوم پوری

Actor from Ambala whose craggy face carried Indian art cinema, Tamas and British films such as East Is East.

Om Puri grew up poor in Ambala and the towns of the Punjab before training as an actor. His policeman in Ardh Satya (1983) made him a star of the new Indian cinema; he appeared in Tamas, Govind Nihalani's film of Partition, and in British and Hollywood films, among them East Is East (1999).
