Gilgit
ਗਿਲਗਿਤگلگت
The northernmost Sikh garrison, from 1842.
Gilgit, on the Gilgit river below the meeting of the Hindu Kush, the Karakoram and the Himalaya, was the northernmost outpost of the Sikh Empire.
A Sikh garrison was posted here from 1842, and the region passed to the Dogras after 1846.
It is now the capital of Gilgit-Baltistan in Pakistan.
