Murdered in Jamnapuri, Delhi, 1 November 1984.
On the morning of 1 November 1984, the day after Indira Gandhi was assassinated, organised mobs began hunting Sikhs across Delhi. Over three days men and boys were dragged from their homes, beaten, doused with kerosene and burned alive, gurdwaras were set on fire and women were raped, while the police looked away or joined in.
Jamnapuri was one of the worst-hit localities. The official count for Delhi is 2,733 dead; families and survivors believe it was far higher. For three decades almost no one was punished.
