Bhagwant Mann

ਭਗਵੰਤ ਮਾਨبھگونت مان

Comedian turned politician whose Aam Aadmi Party swept Punjab in 2022, ending decades of rule by the Congress and the Akali Dal.

Bhagwant Mann grew up in Satoj village in Sangrur district and became famous in the 1990s and 2000s for his satirical comedy about Punjabi politicians and village life.

He joined the new Aam Aadmi Party and was elected to Parliament from Sangrur in 2014 and 2019. In the 2022 assembly election the party won 92 of Punjab's 117 seats, the largest majority in the state's history, and Mann became Chief Minister.
