Shah Nawaz Khan
INA officer from Rawalpindi, tried at the Red Fort in 1945 with a Hindu and a Sikh comrade, whose trial united India against the British.
Shah Nawaz Khan, of a Janjua family from near Rawalpindi, was a British Indian Army officer captured at Singapore who joined Subhas Chandra Bose's Indian National Army. In 1945 the British tried him at the Red Fort together with Prem Sahgal, a Hindu, and Gurbaksh Singh Dhillon, a Sikh, both also Punjabis.
The trial of a Muslim, a Hindu and a Sikh together set off protests across India, and the sentences were remitted. He later chose India and became a minister.
