Bhagat Surdas
Blind poet of Braj. One line of his and one hymn appear in the Guru Granth Sahib.
Surdas, the blind poet of Braj in the sixteenth century, is one of the great voices of Krishna devotion; his Sursagar is a vast ocean of songs on the childhood and loves of Krishna.
The Guru Granth Sahib contains one line attributed to him and one hymn by a Surdas, which some scholars attribute to a different saint of the same name. The hymn urges the mind to leave the company of those who turn away from God.
Including him, the Gurus brought into their book a fragment of the Vaishnav tradition of the Mathura country, a world away from the Punjab plain.
