Teja Singh Sutantar

ਤੇਜਾ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੁਤੰਤਰتیجا سنگھ ستنتر

Ghadar and communist leader who led the muzara tenants of PEPSU against their landlords after 1947.

Teja Singh, called Sutantar, free, worked with the Akalis and the Ghadar party and trained abroad as a revolutionary. After independence he led the Lal Communist Party and the Kisan Sabha among the tenants of the princely states, who refused to hand over shares of their crops to the biswedars.

He later served in parliament. The land reforms of the 1950s, which made the PEPSU tenants owners of their fields, owed much to the movement he led.
