Taklakot (Purang)

ਤਕਲਾਕੋਟتکلا کوٹ

Near the battlefield of To-yo, where Zorawar Singh was killed in December 1841.

Taklakot, Purang in Tibetan, lies in western Tibet near Mount Kailash and the sacred lake of Mansarovar, on the pilgrim route from India.

In 1841 Zorawar Singh took it, and in December of that year he was killed nearby at To-yo, where his frozen army was destroyed by the Tibetans. The Tibetans built a chorten over his remains.

It is now Burang in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China.
