Trilokpuri, Delhi
Resettlement colony in east Delhi where hundreds of Sikhs, many from poor Sikligar and labouring families, were killed on 1–2 November 1984. It was the worst-hit locality in the city.
Trilokpuri is a resettlement colony in east Delhi, built in the 1970s for poor families moved out of the city centre, including many Sikh Sikligar and labouring families.
On 1 and 2 November 1984, after Indira Gandhi's assassination, mobs led by local politicians attacked the Sikhs of Trilokpuri's Block 32. Hundreds of men and boys were killed, many burned alive, and women were raped, while the police stayed away. The streets were piled with bodies when journalists arrived.
It was one of the worst massacres of the Sikh genocide of November 1984. The survivors, mostly widows, were resettled in the 'widows' colony' at Tilak Vihar.
