Lal Singh Dil
Dalit revolutionary poet from Samrala whose angry, plain poems spoke for the landless.
Opens on YouTube ↗Lal Singh Dil was born into a Dalit family near Samrala and joined the Naxalite movement of the late 1960s. Jailed and tortured, he later wandered, worked as a labourer and converted to Islam.
His poems, collected in Setluj di Hawa and other books, give a voice to the landless labourers of the Punjab and are among the most powerful of their time.
