Lord Mountbatten
ਲਾਰਡ ਮਾਊਂਟਬੈਟਨلوئس ماؤنٹ بیٹن
The last Viceroy of India, who brought independence forward to 15 August 1947 and kept the Punjab boundary secret until two days after it.
Sent out in March 1947 to hand over power by June 1948, Mountbatten announced the plan of partition on 3 June and brought the date forward to 15 August. The Radcliffe award was published on 17 August, after independence, while the Punjab was already burning.
He stayed on as India's first Governor-General. He was killed by an IRA bomb in Ireland in 1979.
