Sahir Ludhianvi
ਸਾਹਿਰ ਲੁਧਿਆਣਵੀساحر لدھیانوی
Urdu poet from Ludhiana whose sharp, socialist lyrics changed the Hindi film song.
Abdul Hayee, who wrote as Sahir Ludhianvi, was born in Ludhiana in 1921 and studied there before moving to Lahore. He left for India after Partition and became one of the great lyricists of Hindi cinema.
His songs carried his anger at poverty and war into popular music; his love for Amrita Pritam is one of the famous stories of Punjabi letters.
