ਦਿਆਲ ਸਿੰਘ ਮਜੀਠੀਆدیال سنگھ

Lahore patron who founded The Tribune newspaper and was the first chairman of the Punjab National Bank, and left his fortune to a college and a library.

In 1881 he founded The Tribune in Lahore to give the Punjab an independent English newspaper; it still publishes, from Chandigarh. In 1894 he helped found the Punjab National Bank with Lala Lajpat Rai and others, the first Indian bank run with Indian capital, and became its first chairman.

He died in 1898 and left his estate to found Dyal Singh College and the Dyal Singh Library in Lahore, both of which still bear his name on the Pakistani side of the border.
