Raja Gajpat Singh of Jind
Phulkian chief who founded the state of Jind after the fall of Sirhind in 1764; his daughter Raj Kaur was the mother of Ranjit Singh.
Gajpat Singh, born in 1738, was a great-grandson of Phul through his son Tiloka. After the Sikh misls took Sirhind in 1764 and divided the old Mughal province, he held the country around Jind and Safidon, and the Mughal emperor later recognised him as raja.
His daughter Raj Kaur married Maha Singh of the Sukerchakia misl, and their son was Ranjit Singh, so that the Maharaja of Lahore was the grandson of a Phulkian raja. Gajpat Singh died in 1789; Jind remained a princely state under his descendants until 1948.
