Jasrat Khokhar

ਜਸਰਤ ਖੋਖਰجسرت کھوکھر

Khokhar chief of the Punjab who fought the Sultans of Delhi for twenty years, besieging Lahore and taking Sialkot and Jalandhar.

The Khokhars were a warrior people of the Salt Range and the Jhelum and Chenab country. After Timur's invasion left north India in chaos, their chief Jasrat made himself master of much of the northern Punjab.

Through the 1420s and 1430s he raided as far as Jalandhar and Sirhind, besieged Lahore more than once and fought the Sayyid Sultans of Delhi again and again, now in alliance with the Mongol rulers of Kabul, now alone. He is remembered as one of the few Punjabi chiefs of the Sultanate age who fought for power in his own land.
