Mata Sulakhni
Wife of Guru Nanak, married at Batala, and mother of Sri Chand and Lakhmi Das.
Sulakhni was the daughter of Mool Chand, a Khatri of Pakhoke Randhawa near Batala, and married Nanak in 1487 at Batala, where Gurdwara Kandh Sahib marks the wall against which the wedding party stood. They had two sons, Sri Chand and Lakhmi Das.
Her husband spent more than twenty years travelling, and she brought up their sons largely alone at Sultanpur and with her parents. When the Guru settled at Kartarpur, she joined him and helped run the community and the langar.
She outlived him, dying around 1545, and her quiet patience is honoured in the Sikh memory of the Guru's family.
