Jamrud
ਜਮਰੌਦقلعہ جمرود
Fort at the mouth of the Khyber built by Hari Singh Nalwa, who died defending it in 1837.
Jamrud is a fort at the mouth of the Khyber Pass, built by Hari Singh Nalwa in 1836 to hold the frontier against the Afghans.
In April 1837 the Afghans attacked it, and Hari Singh Nalwa was mortally wounded relieving it. He was cremated inside the fort; a memorial, now within the Pakistan Army's compound, marks the place.
The fort, rebuilt by the British, still stands where the road climbs into the Khyber.
