The land of five waters gave the world its first cities, its saints and its songs. Broken by every empire that crossed it, it is still ours to remember, and to make whole again.

Hazur Sahib, Nanded

ਹਜ਼ੂਰ ਸਾਹਿਬحضور صاحب

Where Guru Gobind Singh died in 1708, after naming the Guru Granth Sahib as Guru. Also where he met Banda Singh. Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib.

Nanded, on the Godavari in Maharashtra, is where Guru Gobind Singh spent the last weeks of his life in 1708. Here he met the ascetic Madho Das, who became Banda Singh Bahadur, and sent him north.

Here the Guru was stabbed by an assassin, and before his death in October 1708 he declared that there would be no more human Gurus, and that the Guru Granth Sahib would be the eternal Guru. Takht Sachkhand Sri Hazur Sahib, one of the five Takhts, stands where he was cremated. Ranjit Singh had it built in the 1830s.

Hazur Sahib keeps its own distinctive traditions, and Nanded has a long-settled Sikh community descended from the Guru's companions.
