India's first Prime Minister, who declared the goal of full independence on the banks of the Ravi at Lahore in 1929.
As President of the Congress at its Lahore session in December 1929, Nehru raised the flag beside the Ravi and the party resolved on purna swaraj, complete independence.
As Prime Minister from 1947 he backed the building of Chandigarh as East Punjab's new capital and the Bhakra dam, which he called one of the temples of modern India.
