Madhaniyan
The farewell song of the bride to her mother and father, one of the saddest songs in Punjabi.
'Madhaniyan, haye o mere dadeya rabba, kinna jammiyan kinna ne lai jaaniyan': the song of the churning staffs. The bride leaving her parents' home sings of the churns her mother turned, of the brothers and the courtyard she is leaving, and asks God who has given birth to daughters and who will take them away.
It is sung at the doli, the bride's departure, at weddings on both sides of the border, and has been recorded by many singers.
