Kala Doriya
The teasing wedding song of the black thread, sung by women at the mehndi and in giddha.
'Kala doriya kunde naal adeya ee, chhota devar bhabhi naal ladeya ee': the black thread is caught on the latch, and the younger brother-in-law is quarrelling with his sister-in-law. The song plays on the teasing friendship between a new bride and her husband's younger brother.
It is one of the best-loved wedding songs of the Punjab, sung by women at the mehndi night and in giddha, and recorded by Surinder Kaur and many others.
