Mehraj (Lahira)
Village in the Malwa where Guru Hargobind fought the Battle of Lahira in 1634.
Mehraj is a village in Bathinda district in the dry Malwa, home of the Phulkian ancestors of the Patiala, Nabha and Jind rulers; it was founded by Mohan, great-grandfather of Phul.
Near here, at Lahira, Guru Hargobind fought the Mughal force sent after Bidhi Chand's recovery of the horses in 1634, with the Sikhs holding the only water and the Mughals dying of thirst.
Gurdwara Gurusar at Lahira marks the battle. The Guru is said to have blessed the house of Phul, whose descendants founded the Phulkian states.
