The land of five waters gave the world its first cities, its saints and its songs. Broken by every empire that crossed it, it is still ours to remember, and to make whole again.

Faridkot

ਫ਼ਰੀਦਕੋਟفریدکوٹ

Named after Baba Farid; a Sikh princely state under British protection.

Faridkot, in the south-west of the Malwa, is named after Baba Farid, who is said to have visited it. It became a Sikh princely state under the Brar chiefs, who supported the British in the Anglo-Sikh wars and in 1857.

Its rajas built a fort and palaces in the town, and a famous Faridkot Tika, a commentary on the Guru Granth Sahib, was produced under their patronage in the 1870s.

A festival for Baba Farid is held here every year.
