Sobraon
Decisive battle of February 1846 where Sham Singh Attariwala fell. It ended the First Anglo-Sikh War.
Sobraon is a village on the Sutlej in Tarn Taran district. On 10 February 1846 the decisive battle of the First Anglo-Sikh War was fought here, with the Sikh army entrenched on the left bank, linked to the right bank by a bridge of boats.
Tej Singh fled across the bridge and broke it, and the Sikhs were trapped against the river. Sham Singh Attariwala died here in white with his men. Thousands drowned.
A memorial to Sham Singh stands at Attari, his village, and a gurdwara near the battlefield.
