Jandiala Sher Khan

ਜੰਡਿਆਲਾ ਸ਼ੇਰ ਖ਼ਾਨجنڈیالا شیر خاں

Birthplace and resting place of Waris Shah, author of the Punjabi epic Heer.

Jandiala Sher Khan is a village near Sheikhupura, west of Lahore. Waris Shah was born here in 1722, and he is buried here.

His tomb, a domed shrine in a courtyard, is a place of pilgrimage for poets and singers of Heer, who come to sing the poem at his grave, especially at his urs. The government of Pakistan restored the shrine in the 1980s.

In 1947 Amrita Pritam addressed her lament for the Punjab to Waris Shah, calling on him to rise from this grave.
