Shah Jamal's shrine, Lahore

ਸ਼ਾਹ ਜਮਾਲ ਦੀ ਦਰਗਾਹ

Hilltop shrine in Lahore famous for its Thursday-night dhol and dhamaal.

Shah Jamal was a 17th-century Sufi of Lahore. His shrine stands on a mound in the neighbourhood named after him, and on Thursday nights it is crowded with devotees who come to hear the dhol and dance the dhamaal.

For decades the drummers Pappu Sain and Gonga Sain played here, and musicians and travellers from around the world came to listen.
