ਵਜ਼ੀਰਾਬਾਦوزیر آباد

Chenab town governed by the Italian general Paolo Avitabile, who rebuilt it on a grid.

Wazirabad, on the Chenab north of Gujranwala, was founded in the seventeenth century by Wazir Khan, governor of Lahore under Shah Jahan.

Under the Sikh Empire it was governed by the Italian general Paolo Avitabile, who rebuilt the town on a grid with a broad bazaar. It was also a centre for making swords and knives.

It remains a cutlery-making town.
