Khadur Sahib

ਖਡੂਰ ਸਾਹਿਬ

Seat of Guru Angad, who taught Gurmukhi and ran a wrestling ground and langar here with Mata Khivi.

Khadur Sahib, a village near the Beas in Tarn Taran district, was the home of Guru Angad from 1539 until his death in 1552. Here he refined the Gurmukhi script and taught children to read, ran the langar with Mata Khivi, and laid out the Mall Akhara where young Sikhs practised wrestling.

Gurdwara Darbar Sahib, Gurdwara Tapiana Sahib and Gurdwara Mall Akhara mark the places of his life. Guru Amar Das served him here for twelve years, carrying water from the Beas every day before dawn.

Khadur was also visited by Guru Nanak, Guru Arjan and Guru Hargobind, and it is one of the quiet heartlands of early Sikhism.
