The land of five waters gave the world its first cities, its saints and its songs. Broken by every empire that crossed it, it is still ours to remember, and to make whole again.

Dera Baba Nanak

ਡੇਰਾ ਬਾਬਾ ਨਾਨਕڈیرہ بابا نانک

The Indian end of the Kartarpur corridor, across the Ravi from Kartarpur Sahib.

Dera Baba Nanak is a town on the Indian bank of the Ravi in Gurdaspur district, built by Guru Nanak's descendants after the river washed away the old Kartarpur. Gurdwara Darbar Sahib here keeps a chola, a cloak said to have been given to the Guru in Arabia, embroidered with verses from the Quran and from Sanskrit.

After Partition the town stood on the border, with Kartarpur Sahib visible across the river and the barbed wire. A viewing platform let pilgrims see the gurdwara where the Guru died, but not reach it.

Since November 2019 it has been the Indian end of the Kartarpur Corridor, a road and a checkpoint through which pilgrims walk to Kartarpur Sahib.
