Gurdas Nangal

ਗੁਰਦਾਸ ਨੰਗਲ

Where Banda Singh and his men were besieged in a walled compound for eight months until starvation forced surrender in December 1715.

Gurdas Nangal is a village near Gurdaspur where, in 1715, Banda Singh Bahadur and his men were besieged in the walled compound of Duni Chand for eight months.

The Mughal army diverted a canal around the compound and starved them out. When it fell in December 1715, Banda Singh and some 740 Sikhs were taken in chains to Delhi.

Gurdwara Bandi Ghar marks the place, and a memorial recalls the siege.
