Sri Hargobindpur

ਸ੍ਰੀ ਹਰਿਗੋਬਿੰਦਪੁਰسری ہرگوبند پور

Town on the Beas founded by Guru Hargobind. The Battle of Rohilla was fought nearby.

Sri Hargobindpur is a small town on the Beas in Gurdaspur district, founded by Guru Arjan and named after his son Guru Hargobind, who settled it.

The founding brought conflict with a local chief, Bhagwan Das Gherar, backed by the Mughal faujdar of Jalandhar. The battle of Rohilla, Guru Hargobind's first battle, was fought nearby.

The painter Sobha Singh was born here in 1901. The town keeps several gurdwaras associated with the Guru.
