Where the trader Makhan Shah Lubana found Guru Tegh Bahadur among many claimants in 1664, after the dying Guru Har Krishan said only that the next Guru was 'at Bakala'.
Bakala, now Baba Bakala, is a town near the Beas in Amritsar district where Guru Tegh Bahadur lived in meditation for many years in a basement.
When the dying Guru Har Krishan said in 1664 that the next Guru was 'at Bakala', twenty-two Sodhis set themselves up there as Guru. Makhan Shah Lubana found the true Guru by his test of coins, and shouted 'Guru ladho re' from the roof.
Gurdwara Bhora Sahib marks the basement where the Guru meditated. Every year in August a fair, Rakhar Puniya, draws large crowds.
