Kartarpur (Jalandhar)

ਕਰਤਾਰਪੁਰکرتارپور، بھارت

Town founded by Guru Arjan in the Bist Doab. Guru Hargobind fought the Battle of Kartarpur here in 1635.

Kartarpur in the Jalandhar Doab was founded by Guru Arjan in 1594, and is distinct from Guru Nanak's Kartarpur on the Ravi.

Here Guru Hargobind fought his battle of 1635 against Painde Khan, and here his son Tyag Mal earned the name Tegh Bahadur. Gurdwara Thamm Sahib preserves a wooden post, a thamm, said to have been set up by Guru Arjan.

The Sodhi family of Kartarpur keep the Kartarpur Pothi, believed to be the original Adi Granth of 1604, the most precious manuscript in Sikh history.
